What is Law?

Law is a set of conduct rules established by an authority, custom or agreement over a certain territory. An example to that is "Don’t drink and drive". Law follows certain practices and customs in order to deal with crime, business, social relationships, property, finance, etc. There are two types of criminal lawyers namely, prosecutors and defence attorneys. Prosecutors represent the state they work for and bring criminal charges against individuals accused of committing a crime.While defence attorneys represent the people accused of committing a crime.

The broad division for types of law is-Common law, Civil law, Criminal law, Corporate law, International law, Commercial law, Family law, Constitutional law, Statutory law, Labour law, Environmental law & Intellectual Property law. There are numerous other laws that exist. Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories & knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who hire lawyers to perform legal services. The role of the lawyer varies greatly across different legal jurisdictions.

How can you start as a Lawyers?

As a lawyer, you will apply legal knowledge to solve individual problems. To start with you need to acquire a law degree by completing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) course. There are 2 types of LLB courses in India: an integrated 5-year program (after 12th) & a 3-year program after completing graduation. After that, you will have to do a mandatory internship as per the norms set by the specific institution. The final step is to enrol yourself as an advocate in any of the state bar councils regulated by the Advocates Act 1961. After registration, you must clear All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The exam is conducted by Bar Council of India, and once you clear it, you get a certificate of practice.

What are the challenges of being a Lawyers?

A career as a lawyer is one of the most sought-after professions and there are indeed many rewards if you pursue one. But working as an attorney has some drawbacks as well. It's not all exciting courtroom drama, news conferences, and grateful clients, Some of the major drawbacks in being a lawyer are: Stress, long working hours, guilty clients, soaring law school debt, competitive job market, clients are reluctant to spend money on legal services., changing legal paradigms, technology changes, poor public image, irritating clients and legal process outsourcing. But the experience is incredibly rewarding. The people you meet and the good you do make all of these challenges worth the headache.
