If you practice hard at your sport and see success, it builds self-esteem and feeling of self-accomplishment. Mastering a skill, such as a consistent serve in tennis, also boosts self-confidence.

Sports can provide a unique opportunity for participants to learn and appreciate the importance of teamwork. There are many health benefits that sports provide you with; like- healthier heart, reduced stress and anxiety, reduced risk of diabetes, reduced body fat, better sleep, lower blood pressure, improved lung function, improved mental health, improved appearance and good mood. If you play multiple sports it helps you to discover what suits you. Also, some sports are seasonal so you may switch and you enjoy a wider social life.

Scientists and sports psychologists haven’t yet concluded just how much of an athlete’s success is talent and ability, and how much is psychological. And yet, no athlete or coach on Earth who would argue that the latter is unimportant. Becoming an athlete is a lifelong process that requires dedication, focus, and plenty of physical abilities. You can start by picking a sport that you love and then practicing it to become as skilled as you can be. To get ahead with it join teams and clubs that are dedicated to your sport and go for competitions & tournament. For continued, long term athletic progress, balance is fundamental. If you manage to juggle commitments, obligations, work, play and sport well, your road to athleticism will be swifter. Your career path as a professional athlete will depend on your sport. Before becoming a professional athlete, remember: As a pro athlete, your job follows you everywhere. You may have curfews or other restrictions to abide by.

What are the challenges of being an Athlete?

Athletes at all levels use mental training and sports psychology to become better athletes, and overcome their mental challenges. Often times athletes are unaware of the mental barriers the limit their performance, and how mental training can help them meet their athletic potential. Mental challenges include- fragile or low self-confidence, breakdown in trust, handling pressure, high expectations, fear of failure or social approval and perfectionism. A bad relation between athlete and coach or with other team players can also be a challenge for athlete.
